Adult
Services:
The Adult Services department (also known as Reference) is located on
the library's main floor and provides directional and informational
assistance to library patrons. On average, over 50,000 reference
inquiries are addressed by the Adult Services department each year.
Reference
Collections
The library's reference collection provides visitors a well-rounded,
up-to-date collection of recommended and standard reference works. Books
in the collection do not circulate.
The serial collection is composed of 192 magazine subscriptions and 31
local, state, and national newspapers. Microfilm editions of some
periodicals titles, including the Meridian Star dating back to
1898, are available for patron use.
Internet Access:
The library
currently houses ten (10) public access computers with Internet access.
To use these computers patrons must sign in and present a valid library
card or picture ID. The library also offers connection to the Internet
from a WiFi hotspot.
Facsimile
Services:
Facsimile Services are available
through the Adult Services department. The cost associated with this
service is $2 for the first page and $1 for each additional page. The

Genealogy:
The Meridian-Lauderdale County Public Library houses one of the best
genealogy (family history) collections to be found in the east-central
Mississippi region. It contains a broad collection of genealogy books
for most of the Southern states, along with an excellent family history

Census
Information:
All federal census microfilm for the states of Mississippi and Alabama
are available for patron in-house use. The library also owns census
microfilm for the years 1800-1850 for Georgia, North Carolina, South
Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Census index books for some years are
also available.
Mississippi
Room:
The library's Mississippi Room contains a goldmine of historical
information for the scholar and student alike. Included in its holdings
are the roster of the Confederacy and many other pertinent Civil War
Materials, along with significant historical information on Lauderdale
County. Materials housed in the Mississippi Room do not circulate, but
may be used in house.
